Horticulture Resources

If you share our love for these plants, and would like to learn more about how to grow them, we recommend membership in the following societies.

American Penstemon Society

A colorful Bulletin and seed exchange. Fun regional and national meetings with great fieldtrips. Very inexpensive to join.

North American Rock Garden Society

An incredible seed exchange and a beautiful journal with articles by some of the best and most informative rock gardeners or our times. Highly recommended. Their website has lots of information on rock gardening and rock garden plants:

Sierra Rock Garden Society

SRGS is the local Chapter of the North American Rock Garden Society in the Sierra Foothills. Membership benefits include plant and seed exchanges, garden tours, monthly newsletter, monthly workshops and lectures.

Mediterranean Garden Society

Members of the MGS are part of a large international group of amateur and professional gardeners, horticulturists, botanists, and others who appreciate the unique climate called 'mediterranean'. We in the Sierra Foothills share this climate.

California Native Plant Society

The California Native Plant Society (CNPS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the understanding and appreciation of California's native plants and how to conserve them and their natural habitats through education, science, advocacy, horticulture and land stewardship. There is a strong local chapter here in the Sierra Foothills. A great group of people. If you love native plants, you need to join.
